An 18-year-old female joined a CrossFit gym to help increase strength and add to her usual training program of primarily running and had a Functional Movement Screen. She has not participated in anything like CrossFit before. Occasionally she will participate in resistance training at her high school gym class. She has no significant injuries at this time. She went through an on-ramp foundations course to learn the basic movements before attending full classes. Enhanced Movements Chiropractic performed a functional movement screen analysis to determine her baseline movement capabilities, as well as to highlight any dysfunctional patterns she may have that could cause issues down the road.

There was a lack or core control and stability when performing push-ups and anti-rotation movements. Squatting patterns and lunging patterns also revealed significant inward knee collapse on both sides.
With the amount of plyometrics, squats, and running involved in CrossFit, these movement deficiencies were significant enough to see and note so that the member did not suffer an injury down the line. The results of the screen were discussed with her, along with a few carefully selected corrective exercises that she began to do at home to address the area of concern. Today she is still pain- and injury-free, feeling stronger than she ever has, and has noticeable improvements in her movement capabilities.
